As we continue to grow, we are seeking a skilled and experienced Financial Controller to join our leadership team and serve as the financial backbone of our operations.
 
Position Summary:
The Financial Controller reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and is responsible for managing all financial functions of the company. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring deep construction industry knowledge, strong accounting expertise, and the ability to work across multiple projects simultaneously. The ideal candidate brings integrity, discretion, and a proactive approach to financial management in a fast-moving construction environment.
 
Duties & Responsibilities:
Accounting & Financial Management:
  • Manage QuickBooks and coordinate with external CPA.
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Manage internal payroll processing and payroll tax compliance.
  • Process internal payments in accordance with company policies.
  • Conduct month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate general ledger entries.
  • Prepare consolidated financial reports and statements for the CEO.
  • Oversee and manage all 401(k) accounts.
  • Manage internal American Express expense reporting and reconciliation.

Project & Construction Finance:
  • Prepare and update project budgets in coordination with Project Managers.
  • Manage job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) schedules, and project-level financial reporting.
  • Prepare and submit draw requests; coordinate with banks and lenders regarding project loans.
  • Prepare credit applications for vendors.
  • Collect and maintain subcontractor files, including insurance certificates and compliance documentation.
  • Assist with the purchasing of large assets across company operations.
  • Process and track bank deposits.

Insurance & Risk Management:
  • Manage General Liability, Workers' Compensation, Auto, and Builder's Risk insurance policies.
  • Oversee internal health insurance policy management and annual renewals.
  • Coordinate and provide documentation for insurance audits.
  • Identify and mitigate financial and operational risk in coordination with leadership.

Compliance & Licensing:
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, federal, state, and local tax obligations, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, CPAs, and tax professionals.
  • Support contract reviews and ensure adherence to contractual financial obligations.

Financial Strategy & Reporting:
  • Develop and maintain annual budgets and multi-year financial forecasts.
  • Provide the CEO with timely financial analysis and strategic recommendations.
  • Prepare company financials for loan applications, audits, and executive review.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with banking partners and lenders.
  • Establish, document, and enforce internal financial controls and policies.

Administrative & Operational Support:
  • Assist with coordination of new hire onboarding as needed.
  • Support inventory management and distribution processes.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the CEO consistent with the scope of this role.
 
Qualifications:
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting or financial management experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience specifically within the construction industry.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks (Online and/or Desktop).
  • Strong working knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
  • Experience managing insurance policies, subcontractor compliance, and draw requests.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred (Bonus Qualifications):
  • CPA or CMA certification.
  • Experience supporting multi-entity or affiliated company structures.
 
Compensation & Benefits:
  • Base Salary: $85,000 – $100,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
